TRAINER PROFILES
Melissa Duven
Melissa Duven
Melissa Duven began her riding career at the age of six. Originally from the East Coast, Melissa enjoyed great success in the Pony, Children's Hunters, and Junior Hunters and Equitation divisions. Competing on a National level, under the tutelage of Hunter/Jumper greats: Nanci Ciesluk, Paul Valiere, and Leslie Burr-Howard, Melissa qualified for New York and Harrisburg National Horse shows several years in a row! Since then, Melissa has worked in multiple capacities for numerous show barns on the East Coast training, showing, and selling horses before re-locating to Scottsdale, AZ where she continued her passion prompting Remington Hill Farm.

With a strong emphasis on equitation and a real "eye" for what it takes to be competitive on the "A" circuit, Melissa covers all aspects of horsemanship both for the rider and horse(s)' benefit. According to Melissa, "it is not enough to be a great rider, great sportsmanship, and horsemanship are vital components as well." With this as her motto, Melissa strives to incorporate a well rounded learning environment not only for her students and horses, but also for herself. By bringing in top clinicians on a bi-yearly basis, Melissa does her best to offer/share her National and International equestrian contacts with her group. Whether you have a horse of your own or ride one of the well-trained lesson horses, Melissa can enable you to meet the challenges of equestrian competition. When not busy showing, coaching or schooling horses, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family and dogs. Melissa also volunteers her time with the Arizona Hunter Jumper Association where she has been an active participant for three years.

Alicia McNeil
Alicia McNeil
Alicia McNeil has been riding since she was just 3 years old.  Growing up riding a headstrong thoroughbred, she was mostly self-taught.  With her family unable to afford lessons, she hung out ringside and absorbed as much from instructors as she could.  After graduating high school and then college, she purchased a very talented young horse out of 1988 Olympic Silver Medalist, "Starman".   She trained "Cinema Star" for almost 2 years, bringing the mare along until she was sold to a junior Dressage rider.

She began her professional career as an instructor and trainer in 1998 at a facility where there was a great need for beginner level instruction and training.  She developed a reputation for kindly starting young horses and developing trust and confidence in horses who had issues.  Her easy-going attitude was attractive to beginners of all ages and timid riders.  Her broad knowledge of horse behavior and communication paired with her true horsemanship is what makes her successful with all types of horses.   Her natural aptitude for teaching makes her a favorite instructor among students.

Alicia has coached students on the "A" circuit in hunters, jumpers and equitation.  With a keen eye for detail and the ability to fully prepare students for the ring, Alicia has helped many riders achieve Championships and Reserve Championships.
